Cookie Policy
Last updated: 17 August 2021
This Cookie Policy explains how we (Italia Standard) use cookies and similar technologies. It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as what are your rights regarding controlling them.
1. WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are small files that are saved into your device from a website, specifically inside your browser (Safari, Chrome, Opera, or others). Cookies would record some informations like your cart items, your language, and your username and password. Those cookies would be sent back to the original website that installed them in the first place, when you visit it again, so your preferences are loaded rapidly (what cookies are exactly?).
Cookies were invented by Lou Muntulli in 1994, when he was developing an online store for a company while working at Netscape (a famous browser from 1990, similar to Safari or Chrome now). The server which hosted that website was running out of memory, because of the high amount of visitors and the high amount of informations to store about them, like their preferences, their cart items, etc... Lou wanted to solve this problem, so invented Cookies, that would store users informations inside users computers. When eventually the user would came back to the same website that installed those cookies in the first place, the website would have read the informations stored in the cookie, and shown user preferences and data.
Every cookie, when installed to your computer from a website, has an identification number that is related to you; contains some data and an expire date. Every cookie can be read only from the his creator, or from the website that installed it in your computer.
Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, Italia Standard) are called "first party cookies". Cookies set by parties other than the website owner and Shopify are called "third party cookies".
Third party cookies usually enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website (e.g. like advertising, interactive content and analytics). We do not use third party cookies for advertisement purposes, but only for necessary access to payment systems and necessary software for the functioning of the website itself.
The only analytic cookies we use are first party cookies from Shopify, and those cookies are used inside the platform itself, to anonymously monitor which products are more viewed.
2. WHY DO WE USE COOKIES?
This is a list of softwares we use in our website:
- Mailmunch (for the creation of the landing page where you can subscribe to the newsletter, for the creation of the banner where you can subscribe to the newsletter and the settings of the autoresponder with the discount coupon).
- Shopify (the merchant's platform itself).
- gTranslate (a software for online immediate translation).
- Easy GDPR (for the consent log and the notifications about who wants to view, modify or delete his data).
- GDPR Cookie Bar + ePrivacy page (for the cookie banner, the cookie blocking and the cookie's consent log).
- Shopify Mail (to send periodic newsletters to subscribers).
- Terms and Conditions Checkbox app (an application that create a checkbox to allow users to agree to our terms and conditions, when they want to purchases something from our site. This app also creates the agreement's consent log, in compliance with the law).
- Shopify Payments app (to allow Google Pay, Apple Pay, VISA and Mastercard payments).
- PayPal app (to allow payments with PayPal at the checkout).
- Order Printer app (to print the invoice of the order when the customer purchase something on the site).
- ProPacklink, for organizing shipping methods.
Basically most of cookies in our website are needed to allow all the above listed tools to work. They are also needed for the website itself to show up properly. We refer to these as "essential" or “Necessary" cookies.
We use mainly first party cookies, and only few third party cookies installed by above mentioned softwares.
The specific types of first and third party cookies served through our Websites and the purposes they perform are described below (please note that the specific cookies served may vary, depending on the specific Online Properties you visit): but the list is written below, with all details.
3. HOW YOU CAN CONTROL COOKIES ON OUR WEBSITE
When visiting our website for the first time, a banner will show up at the top of the website, where you can choose which Cookies you want to allow on your device. We have Necessary Cookies, Performance/Statistic cookies and Tarketing/Marketing cookies. You cannot refuse Necessary cookies since they are mandatory for the functioning of the site.
The Cookie Consent Manager can be found in the notification banner and on our website (click here). This tool allow you to revoke your consent to cookies and chose again which ones you want.
If you choose to reject not necessary cookies, you may still use our website without problems. You may also set or amend your web browser controls to accept or refuse all cookies, but this could prevent you from using our website functions.
Inside the Shopify settings for merchants (which we are) there is an option, under preferences, that is in place for all European users. That option prevent tracking to be activated without the user consent. We have accepted this option, so the tracking does not happens if you do not allow the not required cookies in the cookie banner. Those tracking responsible cookies would not be usable after the session ends, because instead they would expire (the only few tracking cookies we have are listed in the table below, with all details).
You need to know that Shopify has strict rules regarding GDPR and CCPA. You can find more informations here (for cookies policy and what they do to prevent your data to be collected and shared) and here (for a list of cookies that Shopify uses). In the first link, you can read this:
"Shopify limits customer tracking by downgrading its own non-essential cookies, outlined in our Cookie Policy, to session cookies. Session cookies are generally deleted when the customer closes their browser. If a customer consents to tracking, then the non-essential cookies are upgraded to persistent cookies, which are not deleted when the customer closes their browser."
That said, the Decline option present in the cookie banner we have installed, prevent cookies like "_shopify_s", "_shopify_y", "_y", "_s" and others to constantly track your activity inside our site, and to be used after the session is ended, for any possible reason.
The specific types of first and third party cookies served through our Websites and the purposes they perform are described in the table below (please note that the specific cookies served may vary depending on the specific Online Properties you visit).
